Why your Bluetooth speaker is out of sync when you film
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerBluetooth adds a short delay between the phone sending audio and the speaker playing it. When you move to the speaker’s sound, you end up slightly behind the video’s timing. Play from the phone itself or a wired speaker, or re-sync in your editor.
What’s happening
Bluetooth audio is buffered before it plays, which adds a delay. You hear the beat late, so you move late, and the recording shows it.
Fixes
- Play music from the phone’s own speaker.
- Use a wired speaker.
- Clap on the first beat so you can line up audio in an editor.
- Replace the room audio with the original track and line it up by the clap.
AirPods while filming
If you listen on AirPods while the phone records, the recording may not include the music, depending on the app. Check a short test first.
Questions
Is the delay always the same?
It varies by speaker, codec and distance. Test with your setup.
