How to stop echo in your recordings

Short answerMove closer to the phone, turn the speaker down, film in a softer room, or play music in headphones.

Echo is usually the room or the speaker feeding back into your microphone.

Turn the speaker away or turn it down

The more of the speaker's sound your microphone hears, the worse the echo. Use headphones if you can.

Soften the room

Bare walls, glass and tiles bounce sound. Curtains, rugs, a sofa or a bed with a duvet soak it up.

Get closer to the microphone

The closer you are, the louder your voice is compared with the room, so echo is less noticeable.

Record a test

Clap once and listen to the ring. If it lingers, the room is lively.

Echo reduction on a saved recording is planned for our app. It is not built yet, and it would not replace good room and microphone habits.
