Should you wear headphones while filming with music?
By Con, founder of Music Wide Selfie · Updated 22 October 2026
Short answerHeadphones give you a clean vocal recording without the music bleeding in, which is best if you’ll add the track later. Playing music out loud means the music is in the recording, which is quicker but less clean. Wired headphones avoid Bluetooth delay.
Headphones
- Clean voice recording.
- Add the track in editing.
- Wired avoids delay.
Out loud
- Music in the recording, natural energy.
- Harder to balance voice and music.
- No editing needed.
Mixed approach
Music out loud for timing, then replace it with the clean track in editing, lined up by a clap.
Questions
Will AirPods record the music too?
Usually not; check a short test with your app.
